I love embroidering!

So I had my embroidery class yesterday, and it was so much fun. My machine came with only about 25 designs, but some of them are pretty cute. It's really pretty easy to do. I can't believe how smart my sewing machine is. Basically all I have to do is push a button and change the thread when it tells me to. I also ordered the software that will let me have tons of fonts and designs, and it will also let me scan pictures into my computer and it will convert them into embroidery designs. How cool is that!?! Anyway, I'm excited about making things, like baby gifts. So for all my friends who are pregnant, you better name your children so I can go ahead and get started!

I can do it myself!

If my son could make sentences, that's what he'd say. As of now, it comes out with an emphatic, "NO!" when I try to feed him something from a spoon. I took these pictures Tuesday when he ate his bowl of cream of wheat himself. He doesn't really have the concept of a spoon, so every time it gets close to his mouth he turns it over and it dumps down his shirt. He also ate chicken casserole and spaghetti with his hands that day, too. But, aside from all the laundry it creates, it's really not too bad. You see, if he eats all by himself, then I can eat at the same time. Anyway, I thought it was funny, so I decided to take some pictures.

An update on the early potty training. David tried it once and nothing happened, so we probably won't do it for a while. I never really thought it would work anyway, but it was worth a shot, I guess. Hope you are enjoying this great spring time weather!

starting early

I took these pictures last night before bedtime. Looks like my little guy has learned that driving a car and talking on a phone go hand in hand. Gee, I wonder where he learned that?!? At least he's still keeping his eyes on the road.
Thanks to those of you who responded to my nap question. I'm still not sure what to do, but I will say that yesterday and today were two nap days. Maybe I'll try again a little later on.
I also wanted to update you on our other bad habbit that I mentioned a while back--peeing on Mommy when we change a diaper. Well, I mentioned it to the doctor yesterday at our 15 month well check up, and he said that if Campbell could control himself that well, then we could try potty training. He said to put him in front of the toilet and throw a Cheerio in and tell Campbell to pee on it. Yikes! We haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know what happens. Wouldn't it be funny if it worked?!?

1 nap or 2?

Whew, today has been a long day. Campbell has been sleeping less and less during his morning naps, and so I thought we'd try this week going to 1 nap a day. First couple of days were fine, partly because we were with my sister and nephew. It's always better to have a playmate! But today has been the breaker. I put him down at 1:00, and he slept an hour, cried, went back to sleep for 30 more minutes, then was up for good. OK, I'm all for this 1 nap a day stuff, but an hour and a half is just not enough. So I made him stay in his bed for the full two hours. I got him up and he was pretty good for about 15 minutes. Then it was evident that he was still very tired. And with church tonight pushing our bedtime back to 8:30 at least, this was not good. So now, he's back in his bed, and quiet for the moment. I haven't been brave enough to check the video monitor yet.
So, any thoughts on when to go to 1 nap? I don't know if he's really not ready or if maybe it takes a few days to devolp a new sleeping pattern. Any thoughts? I'll take any and all ideas.

Fun with Friends

Yesterday one of Campbell's friends, Ty, came over. His mommy and daddy were getting his new house ready for him, so he played with us for the day. Our friends and neighbors Sara and Taylor came over, too, and we had a great and really fun day. The kids are 16, 15, and 14 months old, and they played so well together. You can really see how different their personalities are when you take them to the park to play. Campbell was, as usual, obsessed with throwing and digging in the rocks. Ty was a walking man and loved exploring the area. He also loved throwing the ball around--man, what an arm he has! And Taylor prefers swinging and listening for the birds. Sometimes I know she's looking at the boys and thinking how crazy they are! Here are some fun pictures from the park. My favorite is the three of them in the wagon. It is hard to get a good picture of three little ones!

wake up call

Hey, everyone. Today I just want to share with you all something that really was a wake up call for David and me. Last night we awoke to fire trucks and lots of other emergency vehicles at our neighbors just across the street. Their house had caught fire. By the time we were aware of what was going on, the fire was out, but the damage had definitely been done. The family is fine, but their house is not. The firemen think it was an electrical fire that started around 1:00 in the morning.
The scary thing is that it could happen to anyone. And we realized that we really don't have a plan for fire. We also hadn't checked our smoke alarms since we moved in, a year and a half ago. And we've also learned about some other great products that can also help. One I wanted to share with you, especially those of you who have kids. They are decals you can put inside and outside your house to help the firemen know where your kids are. Here are just a few examples I found just by searching the Internet. They aren't expensive at all.

The First Alert website is also really informative and helpful. I just wanted to let you all know what we were thinking about and maybe remind you of some things. Even if you don't have kids, you still need a plan. And if you have any other tips, please share them. I'm so glad our neighbors are OK, but we're definitely going to use this experience to make sure we are prepared now.

sewing class

So, I got a sewing machine for my birthday, and today is my second sewing class. So far I've only learned how to sew in a straight (well, sort of straight) line. I'm thinking that my first project will be some simple panels for my bedroom. But I'm kind of scared to get started. What if I buy some really pretty material and screw it up? Well, I guess I'll never know until I try.
I'm also excited because my sewing machine also does embroidering. I haven't even attempted that yet, but that class will be in a few weeks. I can't wait to start giving everyone I know something monogrammed. Anyway, not much is going on this week, so I thought I'd just let you in on what I've been doing.
